black and white with color tutorial

this was made in photoshop cs2
but most photoshops are the basically same
you'll need a basic understanding of photoshop to do this

Duplicate your layer, press CRTL J twice and hide the background layer by clicking the eye.

Go up to IMAGE > ADJUSTMENTS > DESATURATE

Now click the LAYER MASK MODE button

This is important to remember BLACK REVEALS WHITE CONCEALS

Select your brush tool

And in your "basic brushes" select a soft round brush and set it to whichever size you feel you need, I chose 30.

If you dont see your brushes box I'll tell you how to locate it below
(if you already see your brushes skip this part and go on)

Go up to WINDOW > BRUSHES
and the box should pop up, same with any other box you need

Now make sure your foreground color is black and your background color is white.

Then just start painting over the part you want to show color

If you make a mistake change the foreground color to white and paint over the part you dont want color shown

Thats it! hope it helped!
